About – The Story Behind Wild Harvest Life PNW

Hello! I'm Grace, the creator of Wild Harvest Life PNW.

I grew up in Seoul, South Korea, where music was a huge part of my life. I studied music and truly believed that singing would always be my life's greatest passion. But alongside music, I had another love that had been quietly growing since childhood—food.

Even as a little girl, I loved eating wild mountain vegetables. While many children preferred different foods, I happily enjoyed seasonal wild greens, and my grandparents often laughed and said I had "an old person's taste." Looking back, perhaps my love for nature began long before I ever realized it.

In 2009, in my early thirties, my life took an unexpected turn. I married a lifelong outdoorsman from rural Washington State and moved halfway around the world to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. My husband spent his career as a Union Ironworker, while I came from a completely different world. Together, we built a quiet life surrounded by forests, mountains, rivers, and the Pacific coast.

Living here opened an entirely new world to me. For the first time, I learned how to recognize bracken fern growing in the wild, how to prepare it safely, and how to cook it. Like many people learning something new, I relied on the generosity of YouTube creators whose videos helped me continue enjoying the Korean flavors I missed while living far from home.

As the years passed, my curiosity kept growing.

At first, I simply wanted to share what had become my second passion in life—searching for wild greens, mushrooms, berries, seaweeds, seafood, and other seasonal treasures while exploring the Pacific Northwest with my husband.

But the more time I spent outdoors, the more I became fascinated by nature itself.

Every plant, mushroom, seaweed, and living creature has its own remarkable way of surviving. Some thrive in deep forests, others cling to rocky coastlines, while others quietly appear for only a few short weeks each year. Their resilience, diversity, and quiet beauty continue to amaze me every season.

Before I realized it, nature had become much more than a hobby.

It had become part of my everyday life.

Now, seventeen years have passed since I first arrived in Washington. It is 2026, and next year I will celebrate my fiftieth birthday.

Life has taken a direction I never expected. Music has become one of my favorite hobbies, while today I enjoy a simpler and quieter life—caring for my husband, exploring the outdoors, harvesting seasonal foods, creating Korean-inspired recipes, and documenting everything I learn through this blog and my YouTube channel.

Every article, photograph, and video you find here is based on my own experiences unless otherwise noted. I personally explore, identify, photograph, harvest, cook, and write about the wild plants, mushrooms, seafood, and seasonal foods I encounter throughout the Pacific Northwest.

My goal is not only to share information about wild foods, but also to encourage safe, respectful, and responsible foraging. Nature has taught me patience, gratitude, and the joy of slowing down. I hope my journey inspires you to look a little closer at the incredible world around you and perhaps discover your own connection with nature.
